The Whitby
Holocaust Museum

During the final year of my graphic communications course in sixth-form I undertook the challenge of designing a museum to educate the local area on the holocaust. This project was inspired by a trip I took earlier that year with the holocaust education trust to Auschwitz and the trip I took a couple of years before that to Berlin.

The main inspiration of this museum was to teach people more about the events that occurred during
the holocaust . The main focus here was to teach people about the lesser known subjects and the
lesser known events that happened. To do this I incorporated design features that demonstrate the scale of the atrocities committed during this period. Finger prints are one of the ways that I used to show the scale of the events that occurred in Auschwitz. I wanted to create a way of showing the volume of people who had been detained and transported in camps. Finger prints is something that is unique to everyone and serve as a memorial for the millions of people who lost heir lives due to the Nazi regime.

Another way I used to give more depth to the subject is an interactive light feature in front of The
Children of Bullenhuser Damm. These footprints represent the children who where murdered at the
school. The installation features pressure activated lights that represent the children standing next to you.
